The 2017-18 application window for gifted and talented programs, magnet schools, specialized academic programs, and technical centers is open Aug. 15 through Oct. 7. It’s not a first-come, first-served system. Applications may be submitted anytime during this window of opportunity, and all receive equal consideration.
The district’s gifted and talented programs provide the highest level of service in creative and performing arts, math, science, general intellectual ability, and specific academic aptitude. Magnet schools include such options as Spanish immersion and individually prescribed education. In addition, several schools offer specialized academic programs such as pre-engineering. Career and technical education programs also offer high school students a chance to acquire practical knowledge and marketable skills.
Individual open houses in the coming weeks will further explain the options, which focus on students’ needs, interests, and abilities. Fayette County Public Schools will also host a districtwide Information Night in September with representatives from each program on hand to answer questions. This date, time, and location are TBD.
