Lafayette High School’s archery team has set the record for best score ever by an FCPS group, according to head coach Jesse Peters.  Lafayette’s 3,451 also came within 10 points of the highest score ever shot in a NASP tournament in the United States.

Heading into the Fayette County Invitational, Lafayette was ranked first among Kentucky teams. “I have a great group of 65 students that are led by 16 seniors on a mission this year to win a national title,” said Peters, who is assisted by Eric Hauck.

Nineteen high school teams competed Jan. 14 at KBA Sports off West Reynolds Road; this invitational is the longest-running archery tournament in Fayette County.

A co-ed team total comes from the top 12 individuals’ scores, with 300 apiece as the maximum. Lafayette led the way with Mikel Sunley (293) and Alyson Wade (292) as the overall top male and female, respectively, for all divisions. Chris Weitlauf (292) was runner-up among high school boys, and Catelynn McKnight (291) was second among high school girls.
