The 28th annual awards ceremony was April 27 at the Embassy Suites. The keynote speaker was Shawn Harper, a former professional football player, motivational speaker and CEO of Bridge Builders International Inc., who emphasized “we are not born winners or losers – we’re all born choosers!”

“We again were given the opportunity to showcase our seniors, volunteers and program supporters on a night filled with the theme of ‘Achieving the Dream.’ I am very thankful for our planning committee’s efforts in making it a wonderful evening,” said program director Roxanne Brown.

The YMCA Black Achievers is an educational and cultural enrichment program that prepares middle and high school students for college. It connects students with positive adult role models in the community and exposes them to career and social opportunities that are not readily available. For more details, call (859) 367-7334.
