The boys’ tennis team at Henry Clay High School captured its seventh Region 11 title in the past eight years in the May 6-9 tournament in Lexington. In singles play, the Blue Devils’ Ryo Takeda was the runner-up. Lafayette High’s Nathan Gillespie and Taylor Harris teamed up for the doubles championship, with Henry Clay’s Sam Hughes and Luke Yurkoski finishing second.
The champion, runner-up and other two semifinalists in the regional tournaments qualify for the individual state singles and doubles tournaments (top four finishers from each region). In team play, four sectional winners move on to the state semifinals at UK’s Boone/Downing Tennis Complex.
