The 16th District PTA celebrated the successes of 2012-2013 and installed new officers at its annual recognition luncheon, held May 15 at Fasig-Tipton. Liza Holland, the outgoing president, recounted how the PTA launched several ambitious ventures in the past two years, including the fall’s 5K Walk/Run.
“Don’t be afraid to dream big. Lots and lots of good can come from it,” she told the gathering of PTA members, school principals and other FCPS staff. “Never be afraid to stretch yourself. If you see things that need changing for our kids, be ‘gloriously dissatisfied’ and seek to effect change.”
Taking the reins for 2013-2015 is Kathy Smiley, who promised a renewed focus on making every child’s potential a reality. “Our goal will be going beyond the basics to support our families and students in all our schools,” she said.
The other incoming officers are Ruth Revis as VP membership, Adrienne Thakur as secretary, Denise Bauer as corresponding secretary and Liz Hill as treasurer. All except the treasurer took office immediately; Hill will step in after this year’s books are closed.
Judi Conrad, the 16th District’s founding president 20 years ago, received the Outstanding Leadership Award for her years of service. The PTA also awarded $1,000 scholarships to five high school seniors: McKenzi Peace of Bryan Station, Anna Noble of Henry Clay, Hilda Rivera of Lafayette, Kamri Harris of Paul Laurence Dunbar and Armoni Stephens of Tates Creek.
