A group of eighth-graders from Jessie Clark Middle School took first place in 2013’s late spring session of the statewide Stock Market Game. Tommy Adkins, Mohammad Bader, Aldon Cormney and Patrick Gibson increased their portfolio’s worth from the $100,000 initial investment to $109,300 during the eight-week competition; that represented a rate of return of 5.23 percent over the S&P 500 growth.

The Jessie Clark students were guided by life skills teacher Che Farris. The awards luncheon is May 22 in Louisville, where they will receive $300, a trophy and certificates, and SMG t-shirts.

The Stock Market Game is a national program of the Foundation for Investor Education and is offered here by the Kentucky Council on Economic Education. The interactive, interdisciplinary program teaches students in grades 4-12 about finance, capital formation, investments and the American economic system.
