Austin Li of Winburn Middle School earned the mark of “Distinction” by scoring in the top 1 percent nationally on November’s AMC 8, which is a 25-question, 40-minute multiple-choice math exam that promotes problem-solving skills. Austin was also the top scorer at Winburn.
About 150,000 middle school students from dozens of countries take this American Mathematics Competitions exam each fall. Several from Fayette County Public Schools made the AMC 8 honor roll with scores in the top 5 percent nationally: from Tates Creek Middle – Erik Han, Nicholas Tan and David Vulakh (three-way tie for schoolwide high score) and Helen Pang; and from Winburn – Shashank Bhatt, Max Bograd, William Ding and Dylan Li.
In addition, these youngsters made the AMC 8 national achievement roll: Tates Creek sixth-graders Joseph Ilagan, Noah Katz and Caitlin Mamaril; Winburn sixth-graders Sadie Bograd, Dylan Li and Lohith Tummala; and Rosa Parks Elementary fifth-grader Ayush Kumar.
