A staffer at Rosa Parks Elementary is the first honoree in radio station 106.3’s “Tell on Your Teacher Tuesdays” promotion, which is tied to the May 5 celebration of National Teacher Appreciation Day. Fifth-grade teacher Allison George was nominated by student Zach Carter and received a $350 prize basket including gift cards for a restaurant, facial and massage, a bracelet and movie passes.
According to Zach, his teacher gives extra recess when the weather is pretty and shares her sense of humor freely. “She tells funny stories, like the time her husband made a mess with the bacon and got grease on the floor. He didn’t want to get in trouble so he wiped it up quickly. Then Mrs. George came in the kitchen and fell, and then her daughter came in the kitchen and fell. Her son just skated around on it,” Zach said in his online submission. “She is also awesome because she lets us work on homework in class when there’s free time.”
When interviewed on air, George sounded thrilled by her students’ attention, saying, “They’re awesome. They make my job fun every single day.”
The radio promotion continues through May 19 as youngsters are invited to tell 106.3 about their great teachers. George and the other weekly winners will be in the running for the grand prize: a $1,500 classroom makeover sponsored by Community Trust Bank.
