Creativity abounded in the 579 entries in the 2015 KET Young Writers Contest, with four students in Fayette County Public Schools earning statewide kudos.

Soraya Bouzouma, who attended Sandersville Elementary, took first place among fifth-graders for “The Poster.” Hannah McGregor of Ashland Elementary was the second-grade runner-up for “The Wild Girls in the Meadow,” Kiran Koul of Rosa Parks Elementary was the third-grade runner-up for “The Musical Night in the Kitchen,” and Makena Freese of Stonewall Elementary placed third among the fourth-grade entries for “How Rats and Their Bare Tails Came to Be.”

KET invited students in grades K-3 to submit illustrated stories, while fourth- and fifth-graders could enter the short story contest. The children’s talent was evident in the originality and depth of their entries. The top e-books and PDFs are posted at www.KET.org/writerscontest.
