The school district’s annual FAME Awards program gives graduating seniors a chance to thank an exceptional teacher, counselor, coach, or other role model who has made a significant impact on their lives. For more than 20 years, FCPS has encouraged students to share how the relationship with that particular educator has affected them. Their essays are judged by a panel at “It’s About Kids” Support Services, with one winner chosen from each high school. Those students read their entries aloud at the Feb. 27 event, and the rest introduced their nominees with excerpts.
Winning essays
- Bryan Station High School – by student Brittnany Graham, honoring FAME Award winner Darrin Master
- Henry Clay High School – Joanita Maison, honoring Debra McDaniel
- Lafayette High School – Andrew Herrmann, honoring Susan McQueary
- Paul Laurence Dunbar High School – Keriann Ferguson, honoring Devon Roxberry
- Tates Creek High School – Chandler Short, honoring Rebecca Simpson
Several community partners help make this program a success. PNC Bank sponsored the reception, held at host Bryan Station High; Lowe Promotions provided a gift card to Barnes & Noble for each school’s essay winner; and Staples also provided gift cards. Each adult honoree received a FAME certificate and a matted copy of their student’s essay with the photograph snapped after they crossed the stage.
