Drama students from Bryan Station High School scored high marks during the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC), where 10 states brought 20 shows to compete in the High School Festival at the Lexington Opera House during the first weekend in March.
“‘The Cagebirds’ had their best show to date and received superior ratings and phenomenal feedback from the adjudicators,” said theater teacher Amie Kisling. Amoni Adair and Anna Hassloch were named to the all-star cast, and Chris Copley and Ellie Stevens received an award for Outstanding Original Score. “Six students auditioned and interviewed for colleges and scholarships,” Kisling added. “Most importantly, they represented our school and state with pride, humility, and a joyful passion for theater.”
Assistant orchestra director Kelly Mayes also helped guide the group, which included the following cast and crew: Amoni Adair – Wild One; Anna Hassloch – the Mistress; Kylie Baczkowski – the Gloom; Laura Miller – the Twitting; Kayla Stanley – the Gazer; Claire Page – the Thump; Jesse Coy – the Guzzle; Rainey Twilla – the Gossip; Ellie Stevens – the Cellist; Chris Copley – the Violinist; Anna Pursifull – stage manager; Maria Kirwan – assistant stage manager; and Drake Witt – lighting design.
Bryan Station qualified for SETC after a strong showing in last fall’s state High School Festival at the University of Kentucky. SETC’s 10-state region also covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
