This spring, art teachers sent in more than 200 entries representing their students’ best work for the annual calendar art contest in Fayette County Public Schools. Volunteers from the local arts community judged the pieces, and the winners were announced April 26 during a reception at The Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center.

The district’s 2013-2014 calendar and family handbook will feature the artwork of these 14 students:

  • Cover: Dema Ahmed, fifth-grader, Glendover Elementary
  • August 2013: Haleigh Carpenter, kindergartener, Liberty Elementary
  • September: Kara Bethel, freshman, Lafayette High School
  • October: Alicia Perales, senior, Tates Creek High School
  • November: Nathan Hong, fifth-grader, Wellington Elementary
  • December: Kimberly Valle, fifth-grader, Booker T. Washington Academy
  • January 2014: Yuliana Anestacio Cruz, third-grader, Russell Cave Elementary
  • February: Catherine Mize, sixth-grader, SCAPA at Bluegrass

  • April: Josie Cunningham, eighth-grader, Edythe J. Hayes Middle School
  • May: Yuki Watanabe, senior, Lafayette High School
  • June: Annie Kane, eighth-grader, Morton Middle School
  • July: Caleb Turley, preschooler, Wellington Elementary
