Kindergarteners starting in Fayette County Public Schools this fall can participate in several fun and educational activities through this summer’s fourth annual Countdown to Kindergarten (C2K), a program in which community organizations partner to offer free and low-cost events for newly registered students and their families. A new twist for 2014 is the C2K passport, which can be stamped at each site with stickers; by visiting at least six of the 11 events, the child will be eligible for a prize drawing. It all kicks off Saturday June 7, with weekly activities leading up to the first day of school.
Countdown to Kindergarten promotes the lifelong value and importance of education by engaging children in myriad entertaining and interactive activities. The program is financially supported by the PNC Foundation in conjunction with FCPS, the Childcare Council of Kentucky and United Way of the Bluegrass.
Families can find details in the kindergarten registration packet, including a voucher for a free T-shirt and passport, which they can pick up at any branch of the Lexington Public Library. The shirt will serve as the child’s entry pass to C2K activities. If a child has signed up for kindergarten and did not receive a voucher, please call (859) 381-4105.
