Henry Clay girls' golf coach earns state kudos

The Kentucky Golf Coaches Association has selected Kevin Mims of Henry Clay High School as the 2012 girls' Coach of the Year. Mims led the Blue Devils to a third-place finish in this fall's state tournament.

In other honors, the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation named Henry Clay's Allison Leigeb and Meg Mills to the 7th Region team and Mims as the region's top coach.

Postseason recap 

The girls’ golf team at Henry Clay High School won the 7th Region tournament Sept. 24 at Gibson Bay in Richmond. Meg Mills, a junior, posted a 76 to lead the Blue Devils, which was good for runner-up medalist honors.

Meg and teammates Allison Leigeb (80), Sara Bidarian (83), Leslie Ginter (85) and Alison Miller (91) are coached by Kevin Mims.  

Henry Clay’s team total 324 was 10 shots ahead of Boyle County High. Both schools advanced to the Oct. 1-3 state tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club, where the Blue Devils finished third. Paul Laurence Dunbar High finished third in the region.

On the boys’ side, Chandler Morgan of Tates Creek High shot a 74 in the 9th Region tournament at Kearney Hill Links, which qualified him for the Oct. 4-6 state competition.
