Students at Henry Clay High School have collected more than 170 toys for families of service members deployed to Afghanistan. The Advanced Citizenship classes in the school’s Liberal Arts Academy led the holiday toy drive, and soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell presented them with a certificate of appreciation.
Ret. Lt. Col. Scott Brown, a social studies teacher who served with the 101st in Afghanistan and Iraq, coordinated the effort along with EKU student teacher Whitney Clarke. Brown’s ninth-grade civics students have adopted the 1st Brigade Combat Team’s Alpha Company during this latest deployment.
