Lafayette High’s football team capped its season as runner-up in the Class 6A KHSAA championship, falling 41-14 to undefeated Male in the Dec. 5 title game in Bowling Green.

Quarterback Walker Wood ripped off a 55-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and later hit Quinten Brown for a TD pass late in the game. Wood was 22-of-36 passing for 229 yards; he also rushed for 136 yards. The Generals, who finished with a 13-2 record, are coached by Eric Shaw.

Lafayette was the first Lexington school to play in a championship game since Bryan Station in 1999. Henry Clay was the last to win it all, in 1981. Lafayette also came up short in 1960 and 1985.
