Young chess players receive state-level kudos

Noah Katz, a third-grader at Maxwell Spanish Immersion Magnet School, tied for top honors in the K-3 division in the state Individual Scholastic Chess Championships this spring. In the 2013 team competition, Meadowthorpe was runner-up in both the elementary and primary fields.  

In the mid-March individual contests in Bowling Green, Lafayette’s Taylor Bagley placed third in the high school division and Dunbar’s David Seder was eighth. In elementary (grades 4-5), Brian She of Meadowthorpe finished sixth. Earlier in the semester, Tates Creek placed eighth in the middle school division, and Rosa Parks was eighth in the primary field of the statewide team tournament.
